This week’s Word of the Week is Witness. You’ve probably heard of witnesses in police and detective shows, but we can also be witnesses to the Gospel. We can be disciples, pioneers, and witness to the Gospels being lived out every day.

Choose from the tabs below something to do, or mix and match if you want to! There are enough things to do one for every day if you so wish.

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

The Bible Project is a great channel that’s available on YouTube. They have loads of videos, some word-based, some scripture-based, and some animations. This video looks at a word study of the word ‘Witness.’

Recommended for all!

This second video is a bit different. It’s a beautiful song that has been put together by lots of different Churches around the UK. It’s a great example of people being witnesses to the Gospel and coming together just as the Bible says that we should.

We end by making the Sign of the Cross.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 5:13-16

“You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lamp stand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

The Gospel of the Lord

This song was written for World Youth Day in Sydney 2008. It talks about everyone from across the world coming together to be witnesses to the Gospel and our faith.

Our next song is a song called More Than Conquerors. *Spoiler Alert!* It’s also this week’s Learn A Song Song! It’s all about the fact that as witnesses to the Gospels we are stronger than we think, and has some brilliant actions that go with it that you can learn with Issie in Learn A Song.

The month of May is traditionally known as the month of Our Lady; a time when we show our love and devotion to Our Blessed Mother. One of the ways in which we do this is to say the Rosary. Earlier this month, Pope Francis encouraged all of us to pray the Rosary at home. He said;

For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May.  This can be done either as a group or individually; you can decide according to your own situations, making the most of both opportunities.  The key to doing this is always simplicity, and it is easy also on the internet to find good models of prayers to follow. I am also providing two prayers to Our Lady that you can recite at the end of the Rosary, and that I myself will pray in the month of May, in spiritual union with all of you.  I include them with this letter so that they are available to everyone.

What a great way to be a witness to our faith, by praying to Mary our mother during this month of May. Why not try it with some members of your house hold?
