Witness – 2020/21

This week we are looking at the word

WITNESS

As followers of the Lord Jesus, we are called to serve as witnesses to our faith.
To be a witness to Christ is to demonstrate by our words, actions and attitude the sacred mystery that we have “seen”, heard and believe in our hearts about the Lord who has forgiven us of our sins and offered us eternal life.

The Bible Project is a favourite of ours here at Trinity! In this video they look at where the word ‘Witness’ is used in the scriptures and how the role of a witness has changed and been passed on throughout time. Watch the video and then try the quiz questions below to see if you were listening properly!

Were you listening properly? Answer the questions below and then click on the tab to see the answers. Let us know how many you got right in the comments!

  1. The Hebrew word for witness is Eid – True or False?
  2. Why did Boaz need witnesses when he met with Naomi’s family?
  3. Who is God’s chief witness that He meets on Mount Sinai, Moses or Abraham?
  4. Isaiah has a vision of God as a pillar of light – True of False?
  5. What word fills the space in the following sentence? Jesus was the (insert word here) witness.

See how many you got right!

1. True! The Hebrew word is Eid, and the Greek word is Martus.
2. He needed witnesses to watch him pay for land, so that if there were any disagreements afterwards they could testify.
3. Moses! Whilst Abraham might have been a witness to God, it was Moses who received the 10 Commandments on Mount Sinai.
4. False! He has a vision of Him as a Cosmic King.
5. Ultimate. Jesus was the ultimate witness, the greatest of them all.
