The first week of Advent is themed around Hope. It’s a chance to remember the hope of God’s people as they waited for a Messiah and an opportunity to reflect on our hope that one day Jesus will come again. What are you hopeful for in our world? If you could have just one hope for the future what would it be? God gives hope to everyone and as we enter the season of Advent we should remember that whenever things are difficult we can always hope in God.

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Think about how you will make your hopes, and the hopes of others, become a reality this Advent.

We end by making the Sign of the Cross.

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Lord, we pray that all of our efforts to raise money and to make a difference to others this Advent will be successful. May we bring hope to those less fortunate than ourselves as we put our faith into action.

We end with the Sign of the Cross.

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

In this song we pray for Jesus to come again and to unite us with Him in Heaven.

In the song we hear the word ‘Emmanuel’ meaning God is with us. Take some take as we start advent to know that God is with us.

Begin this time of meditation by sitting comfortably in your chair. Place both feet on the floor and start by closing your eyes and slowing your breathing.

Focus on breathing deeply and slowly.

Tense and then relax your toes, then your legs and work your way up your body until you are sat calmly in your chair.

Allow the words of the song to guide your thoughts and prayer this morning and think about the words of St Paul to the Romans:

Let your hope keep you joyful

Romans12: 12 GNT

When the song has finished slowly open your eyes and give yourself time to reflect on this time of prayer.

We end with the Sign of the Cross.

If you have any thoughts or reflections then please add them to the comments box below!

This Advent we have HOPE. Hope for the world. Hope for each other. Hope in Jesus Christ!

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

As always we take time in our week to listen to Sunday’s Gospel.

Think about how you will show your faith today. How will you ‘stay awake’ and alert in your faith throughout Advent?

We end with the Sign of the Cross.
