On Friday 4th October the schools within the St Francis of Assisi Hub gathered at the Church of Our Lady St Edwards in St Annes, to celebrate their Hub Mass together. It was particularly special as we were able to gather and celebrate on the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi- the Patron Saint of our Hub and the Patron Saint of Ecology. Friday 4th October was also the end of Pope Francis’ initiative for the Season of Creation. Therefore, we celebrated and reflected on the ways in which our schools have took action to protect God’s beautiful creation. We also reflected on the ways in which we have made efforts to help the helpless and the vulnerable, as St Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis have called us to do.
It was amazing to have the Church filled with representatives from all the different communities within our Hub. The Mass was a really joyful and prayerful celebration and each school prepared their own part for the Mass. St Patrick’s School lead the Penitential Act, Blessed Robert Widmerpool lead the Psalm, St Edmund Campion lead the Gospel Reflection, Our Lady and St Edwards lead the Intercessions, English Martyrs lead the Thanksgiving Prayers and The Becket Sixth Form musicians led the music, which was accompanied with everyone’s fantastic singing!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in our celebration and a special thank you to Fr Jonathan Cotton, Fr Joe Wheat and Fr Michael Brown who celebrated Mass for us!
