beliefSelf belief is a difficult thing. We’ve seen over the last few weeks just how importance our identity is – how important it is to find that identity. But what do you do when you find yourself? Are you brave enough to put yourself out there? Brave enough to take risks? Brave enough to show the world the person you are?

This week is almost exactly one year since we filmed and shared the “Express yourself” video. So with that in mind we are going to shoot something new to help us reflect on our identity and to show just how much we have to celebrate.

Bring to the chapel this week something that you’re proud of. It could be a certificate, an award or even just a piece of work that your proud of and get ready to show it off to the camera! They’ll also be opportunities to be part of the project in the plaza at break and lunch times!

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Today’s big question:

What makes it difficult to have self belief?

The answer may in fact be nothing – you might find it easy to believe in yourself. If, however, like many people you find it hard to believe in yourself realising the things that get in the way can be a good place start if you want to change things.

Spend a few moments discussing your answer and see what you have in common with each other.

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to believe in ourselves and to help others do the same. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Has someone helped you to believe in yourself today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

This video features Wretch 32 talking about where he gets his self belief from. He says he finds his motivation and his desire to carry on in his family.

There are lots of different reasons to believe in ourself – and lots of times when things will get tough and we’ll need to rely on that same belief.

Talk about in pairs: What helps you to believe in yourself?

Lord, help us to find a reason to believe in ourselves. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you had to half self belief today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Wednesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Today we are going to reflect on an image and see if we can take a message from it. Mr Turton used this image in his AOW last week.

Click on the thumbnail below and talk about this image as a form. What message do you think it gives us?

Thursday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Today for out PSHCE we are going to use the key process of “Think about it”

It’s about taking time to reflect and it’s often harder than you think. Take some time to set up your environment. Try and remove distraction. This video is only 2 and a half minutes long – try and spend that time again afterwards in silence to make reflect on it and on the things we have been focusing on this term. It might make it easier to close your eyes when you do this!

It might seem a bit odd, but how often do we ACTUALLY stop and think about something without getting distracted by something else?

In the video Blondin shows amazing self belief, but it also talks about someone who believes in him so much that they put their life in his hands. Maybe during the silence think about who believes in you and who you believe in too.

Self belief can be something we often need a bit of help with.

Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

This scripture passage is from St Paul’s letter to the Hebrews. What do you think it is telling us to do with our self belief and confidence?

35 Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward. 36 For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. 37 For yet

‘in a very little while,
    the one who is coming will come and will not delay;
38 but my righteous one will live by faith.
    My soul takes no pleasure in anyone who shrinks back.’

39 But we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost, but among those who have faith and so are saved.
