The-good-news-wallpaper_5374We are now in the third week of Eastertide. We often think that ‘Easter’ is over once Easter Sunday comes but in fact it’s just getting started! These 50 days until Pentecost remind us that we have a lot to be happy about and a lot to celebrate.

With that in mind this week’s prayers are all about sharing the good news. We have so much to be proud of and so much to give our world that we have a duty to share it with others. In fact Jesus commanded us to share the good news of our faith with the world. We are going to look at how we can make a difference to our world by sharing and celebrating in the joy of Easter.

We also have a very important week for our year 11 and year 13 students. On Thursday and Friday they will be celebrating their last day at The Becket school with special liturgies and masses. Let’s make sure we keep them in our prayers this week.

Tuesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have  a look at this:

In this video the Son has just told his father he got a C in his GCSE Maths exam after being predicted a F just one year ago. The reaction speaks for its self. It’s the power of good news.

The effect of giving someone good news is simple. It makes them happy! When Jesus wanted people to tell others the good news he wanted people to celebrate and to feel joy. Pope Francis constantly reminds us to share our faith with joy and we have a lot to be joyful about; we are loved and we can can have eternal life though Jesus – sounds like pretty good news to me!

So today think about how you can share good news with other people. What’s the news that can bring people Joy and how can you share it? Spend a few moments in silence thinking about how you can fill your day with good news!

Lord, help us to share the good news with others. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you given out any good news today?

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Wednesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

It can be hard to find good news. If you look on the front page of any newspaper or website you would be forgiven for thinking that nothing good ever happens. It seems the world does not want to hear good news and instead just wants to be miserable!

Today we are going to do something about it!

Find a sheet of A3 paper (or as big as you can get!) and as a class talk about the best pieces of good news that all of you have. It might be that a new baby brother or sister is on the way, it might be a competition that someone has won, it might just be that someone had a really good breakfast! Put your headlines on to your very own class newspaper and put it in your form window.

As you journey round school today look out for the good news and share it with each other.

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to find joy in our lives. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you seen some news that made you smile today?

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Thursday

Use the Key Process of “Numb3rs” to explore the following question. It’s linked with our PSHCE topic and is all about crime figures released last week. It’s also linked with this weeks theme as for once  it is a piece of good news too!

By what percentage did crime fall last year?

(It’s between 0% and 20%)

Why do you think this figure might be what it is this year? What might affect it? Is is something to be celebrated?

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us do everything we can to make our world a better place . Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Sts Philp and JamesLast weekend was the feast of Saints Philip and James. These two figures were instrumental in spreading the good news to the world. This reading from St Paul’s letter to the Corinthinans talks about the importance of the message they had to share with the world.

Brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, the gospel that you received and in which you are firmly established; because the gospel will save you only if you keep believing exactly what I preached to you – believing anything else will not lead to anything.
 Well then, in the first place, I taught you what I had been taught myself, namely that Christ died for our sins, in accordance with the scriptures; that he was buried; and that he was raised to life on the third day, in accordance with the scriptures; that he appeared first to Cephas and secondly to the Twelve. Next he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died; then he appeared to James, and then to all the apostles; and last of all he appeared to me too; it was as though I was born when no one expected it.

Why do you think it’s important to spread the good news today? Put your comments in the comments box below.

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to find the courage to share your message with others. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

What good news can you share this weekend?

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.
