CELPentecost[1]Pentecost is finally here! On Sunday we celebrated the feast of Pentecost – when the Holy Spirit came to the disciples and they began their mission of spreading the good news to the world! This week our prayer resources are going to be all about the Holy Spirit and how we can use its many gifts to make a difference to the world around us. This week we’ll also be looking at some of the things that Yr 9 got up to at The Briars last week. They focused on how we can be filled with the spirit and as Pope Francis said: how we can “Go forward, have courage and make noise!”

This week is also special as it’s the last full week of the academic year. After enrichment week next week you will all be moving up to the next year of school and, just like the disciples, you’ll have a new mission to live out!

Monday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

This song was a bit hit last week at The Briars and it is the perfect Pentecost song. It’s called brave and it’s about not being afraid  and being brave enough to be yourself. The words and the dancing are amazing, but its only toward the end of the video you realise that they were all doing the same dance. That’s because the same spirit lives in all of us and inspires us to different things in our lives. One thing it certainly helps us to be is brave!

Think about it: In what area of your life do you need to be a bit more brave?!

Lord, help us to be good brave. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you been brave today?

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Tuesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

The disciples were sitting the upper room afraid of what might happen if they showed themselves as Christians. Are we sometimes afraid to show our true selves, or show our faith to the world?

In a world where everyone seems to be sharing a selfie do we really share the real “us” with those around us?

At The Briars, Year 9 had to draw images of the person they really are – a true selfie – and then show them to the world. This morning you have the same task!

Draw a selfie of yourself doing something you love or just being the person you are and stick them in your windows for the world to see.

The Holy Spirit at Pentecost gave the disciples the courage to show themselves as they truly are to the world and that same spirit can help us do the same today!

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us show who we really are. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

The Holy Spirit can be a difficult thing to understand sometimes. The young people in the Holy Spirit parish know this all too well, as they’ve been working really hard over the last few months preparing for thier confirmation last Saturday. It was an awesome event and the young people involved are brilliant examples of what our faith is about. This was the second reading from the Confirmation mass, it’s from St Paul’s letter to the Corinthians:

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,  to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Think about what it’s tell us. What gifts do you have and what can you do with them?

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to know the gifts you have given us and help us to share them with others. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

How can you proclaim the good news to your friends?

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.
