This week we’re taking the opportunity to look at the different ways we connect with those around us. The word ‘Friend’ has changed it’s meaning quite a lot recently. A ‘friend’ can simply be someone you’re connected to online and who you may have never met or spoken to! Think this week about what real friendship is. How can you be a good friend and who are the friends that matter most to you?

Friendship is one of the building blocks of our school community. By working together, listening to one another and supporting one another we can make our community better for everyone.

On Friday your Form Reps, along with your House Captains, will gather in the Chapel for our first House Council meeting of the year which will be an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and ideas on our school.

In your Form rooms this morning please reflect on the following topics and share your ideas with your Form Reps who can jot your ideas down and bring them to the House Council meeting on Friday:

  • Last week we reflected on our Mission Statement, how can we bring this to life around school in our displays and through our actions and behaviour?
  • Our school has lots of visitors but who would you like to see and hear more from? It could be opportunity to quiz a priest or a talk from a police officer, let us know your thoughts!
  • We’d like to provide the opportunity to discuss some of the questions that fill our minds everyday but what are you wondering about?
  • If you have any other comments or feedback then share them with your Form Reps so they can bring them to House Council on Friday!

Help us Lord to always work together so that we can strengthen our friendships and make the world a better place for everyone.

Amen.

On Thursday this week we celebrate the feast day of St Anthony. He was an influential figure who, rather than run away from danger and controversy, placed himself where he was needed and worked tirelessly to support Christians and to defend the faith when it was under attack. Despite all of this St Anthony actually spent most of his life as a hermit, living in solitude so that he could strengthen his most important friendship – his friendship with God.

Spend some time this morning in peace and quiet and give yourself the opportunity to reflect on your friendships. You may wish to close your eyes or to focus on the image on the screen. With the music playing quietly reflect on some of these themes and follow the example of St Anthony who always made time for peace and quiet.

As always we take time in our week to listen to Sunday’s Gospel.

Think about how you can be the best that you can be, not only for you but for your friends too!
