Welcome back and Happy New Year!

On Sunday we celebrated the feast of the Epiphany – when the wise men from the east brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the baby Jesus. For us it’s an opportunity to think about the gifts we’ve been given and how we use them to serve God. It’s also a chance to give thanks for all those people who give so much to us every day.

During the Christmas Holidays it was the feast day of our school patron St Thomas Becket on Saturday 29th December.

To continue the celebrations for his feast day we are calling upon you to write a school prayer that celebrates out patron, St Thomas Becket and celebrates our community. We are asking every form to prepare a few lines which will be passed onto our school Chaplaincy Teams who will take all of these lines and ideas to make the final School Prayer.

To remind you of some of the themes you may wish to focus on in your lines for the prayer take a look at this video…

You might want to include something about:

  • peace during disagreements
  • thinking about the words that we say
  • showing that we are sorry
  • being faithful to God and our beliefs
  • using our power for good

All of your ideas must be submitted via the Be Inspirational site/ into Joe and Marsha’s tray in the staff room by Friday 18th January!

One of the ways that we show, or reveal, our identity as a community is through The Becket School Mission Statement. Read this through in your forms now.

The Becket is a Catholic school. Our mission is to work in partnership with parents and carers to provide an outstanding Catholic education for all our young people. This means:

  • inspiring and motivating young people to achieve their full potential academically, spiritually, socially and in a full range of extra-curricular activities
  • helping young people to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ
  • developing in young people a deep knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith
  • practising Gospel values, such as forgiveness and helping those in need, within our school community and in society as a whole.

Spend some time listing the many ways that our school community lives out our mission statement in the comments box below, try to think of ideas for each part of the statement.

As many people make New Year’s resolutions at this time of year take this opportunity to make one for your school life too. Choose a phrase in the Mission Statement and make it your mission to live it out this year!
