Almsgiving means simply giving to those in need and last week we put our faith in action in our Lenten Fundraising. It’s one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and it makes a life changing difference to those who really need it.

This week we’re going to think about all of the different types of giving that we can make. It’s not just about giving money, but about giving time, love and compassion.

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

As Marsha said, think about what you as a form can give to others this week and put it in the comments box below.

Lord, help us to be generous with the things we have. Amen

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

We see lots of examples of real giving in scripture. This bible story, brought to life trough animation is a story from Luke’s Gospel.

What do you think we can learn from it today?

Lord, help us to understand what real giving is. Amen

Next week’s Word of the Week is Sacrifice, where we remember the greatest act of giving ever. God giving his only son and Jesus giving his life so that we could be saved. Today we want you to do something to help get ready for next week.

Think of something you can do for someone at home over the weekend. It’ll probably involve making a sacrifice if it is truly an act of giving.

Write in your planner for Monday of next week (during Holy Week) what your act of giving/sacrifice is going to be. It could be to do a job around the house that you don’t normally do or to buy an unexpected gift for someone else.

On Monday your first job is to look back at your act and see if you managed to complete it and the share the effect that it had with each other.

Lord, help us to make sacrifices for the people that we love. Amen.

As always we take time to listen to a reading of Sunday’s Gospel to help us reflect on what God is saying to us.

Watch this animation of this week’s scripture – what is it saying to us?

Take some time to think about what God is saying to you.

Lord, help us to listen to your word and hear your voice in our lives. Amen
