Yof (12 of 15)This Sunday saw a very important liturgy take place at Nottingham Cathedral. It was the closing liturgy for the Year Of Faith. Members of staff and pupils from Becket along with people from across the whole diocese gathered together to celebrate the special year that has taken place in the church.

This week we’re going to look at the different things that have taken place over the Year Of Faith and how we move forward. This term we’ve also been looking at Equality and Understanding and faith can often be a reason for conflict as well as a reason to bring people together. In the last week of the church’s year lets look back at what we’ve achieved and look forward to what is to come!

Monday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

So today is the next instalment of the “Question of the day with A&J.” Have a think about the following question and talk it through as a class.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JEtGoIPvqw

If the video is not working – I know we are still having YouTube issues – then the question of the day is: How does your faith affect the way you live your life?

Lord, help us find our faith in ourselves and in you. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you had to have faith in something today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Tuesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

This week is a little bit different as this morning, we are all in form time and we’ve got a special one off activity for everyone to do.

Having faith is sometimes about living out a mission and we as a school have what’s called a mission statement. At the moment we are trying to think how and what it should be and so some of the governors and staff have come up with some ideas. We want to know exactly what you think about the draft statement; things you like and the things you don’t! Have a read of it as a class and write your comments in the comments box below. All your feedback will help us make the mission statement something that represents us all.

This is what we’ve got so far!

The Becket is a Catholic school.  Our mission is to provide a Catholic education for all our young people.  This means:

  • helping young people to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ
  • developing in young people a deep knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith
  • enabling our young people to achieve their full potential academically and in the arts, music and sport
  • practising Gospel values within our school community and beyond.  In particular:

–          striving to acknowledge the dignity and worth of each individual
–          aiming to give most help to those with most need
–          practising forgiveness and reconciliation in a supportive environment

Let us know what you think and be honest! Give examples of the lines you like and the lines you don’t as well as things you think we should include!

Have fun!

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to live out our mission as a school. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have you been on a mission today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Wednesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

glassAs the Year of Faith has come to an end – you’ll notice a few things are going to change. The stained glass windows in the chapel are coming down (Please let me know if you think of something we can replace them with!) and the prayer which we pray at the end of every day will also be changing. We need your help to make sure that what we’ve learnt during the year of faith stays with us in what we do and who we are.

You may or may not have noticed that the Year of Faith prayer has all of it’s lines begininng with the letter F A I T H! It’s just a reminder that even if we don’t see it sometimes our faith is in everything we do!

Next week we will be holding a few open sessions in the chapel at break times to write a new school prayer so come along and give us your ideas. Today however, we want to commemorate our stained glass windows by asking all the forms to make something for their form windows. There are already lots of really cool things stuck in the windows from previous AOW’s, so keep them where they are, but we would like to you to all take a piece of paper (different colours if you can) and write on it something or someone you have faith. Then take the little pieces of paper and fill one window panel (which ever you like) by blue-tacking them all to the glass! That way we’ll have stained glass windows all over the school!

Have fun!

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to be proud of our faith and show it to the world Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.

Thursday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

For our PSHCE today we are going to use the Key Process of “Roleplay”

Using the key process role play the following situation.

“Taking a leap of faith!”

Trusting in people and situations is an important part of life and an important part of being understanding to others. It can be also be dangerous to blindly trust everything you see or hear. Think about a situation where you have to take a “Leap of faith” and use the instructions in the key processes to create your role plays.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross.

For our scripture reflection we are going to look at a brilliant quote about faith from the  book of James chapter 2 vs 14-18

14 My friends, what good is it to say you have faith, when you don’t do anything to show that you really do have faith? Can that kind of faith save you? 15 If you know someone who doesn’t have any clothes or food, 16 you shouldn’t just say, “I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat.” What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? 17 Faith that doesn’t lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead!

18 Suppose someone disagrees and says, “It is possible to have faith without doing kind deeds.”

Have a think about what this is telling us about our faith.

Morning Prayer: Lord, help us to put our faith into action. Amen.

We finish with the Sign of the Cross.

Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again. Amen.
