It’s Advent! This time of year is really important as it helps us prepare not just for Christmas but for Jesus coming into our world again. We have an amazing opportunity to bring Jesus to the world not just though the nativity but by the way we celebrate this special time of year. This is a time of preparation and or anticipation, but it is also a time of action. We are called to think about what Christmas means to us and to realise that it is more than just the lights and the decorations and the presents. We are called to realise that we again have an opportunity and a responsibility to bring the Light of the World to others.

Monday

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

In the book of Romans we hear St Paul Quoting the Prophet Isaiah:

And again, Isaiah says,

“The Root of Jesse will spring up,
one who will arise to rule over the nations;
in him the Gentiles will hope.”

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

St Paul is reminding us that Jesus birth was prophesied long ago and that the people of Israel were living in hope of when Jesus would come. He is also reminding us that we should hope in Jesus still and that Hope itself is a powerful gift from God.

Talk about and think on the following questions in form:

What do you hope for most at Christmas this year?

Do you think Jesus was what the Jewish people were hoping for?

Morning Prayer: Lord, give us hope in you and help us to give hope to others. Amen

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Think for a moment about what you are looking forward to this Advent

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Tuesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

It’s time for action! It’s great to see the text’s from God and other things you’ve made on the outside of your form rooms and this week, the first week of Advent, is a good time to start adding some more decoration. Take the word Hope (H-O-P-E-) and for each letter write one thing that gives you as a form hope. Then write it on a piece of paper and stick it on your door so that the message of hope that this first week of Advent is all about, can be shared with all those who use your room!

Morning Prayer: Lord, Help us to realise that in the most difficult of times there is always hope. Amen.

Prayer at the end of the day

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Who has given you something to hope for today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Wednesday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

I think there is alot to be hopeful in our world. There are may people who say that things are all going wrong that our world is getting worse but I think we see in our community every single day there there is alot to hope for. There is hope. Have a look at this video which some of you helped to make and think about ho it makes you feel. Think about what it is we need to do to build the future we all hope for.

Morning Prayer: Lord, Help us to build a better world in the future. Amen

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the sign of the cross.

What is something that you think we need to reverse in our world? What kind of world do you hope for when you grow up?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Thursday

We start with the Sign of the Cross.

Have a look at this image (Click to enlarge) This is an original Banksy entitled “There is always hope” What does it make you think of?

Spend a few moments thinking about those people who need hope and more importantly about how we can give that hope to them.

Morning Prayer: Lord give us the courage to hold on to hope. Amen

Prayer at the end of the day:

We start with the sign of the cross.

What messages have you seen around school today?

Father, give us faith
And help us to appreciate the things we cannot see.
Inspire in us not just a faith in you, but a faith in our family, our friends and ourselves.
Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.

Amen.

Friday

We Start with the Sign of the Cross

As it’s Friday I thought it would be nice to read some amazing words on Hope. These words are by Emili Sande and I think there is something in there for everyone to think about. Read the lyrics then spend some time in prayer thinking about what hope really means to you.

I hope that the world stops raining
Stops turning it’s back on the young
See nobody here is blameless
I hope that we can fix all that we’ve done
I really hope Martin can see this
I hope that we still have a dream
I’m hoping that change isn’t hopless
I’m hoping to start it with me
I just hope I’m not the only one
I just hope I’m not the only one

I hope we start seeing forever
Instead of what we can gain in a day
I hope we start seeing each other
Cause don’t we all bleed the same
I really hope someone can hear me
That a child doesn’t bear the weight of a gun
I find the voice within me
To scream at the top of my lungs

I just hope I’m not the only one
I just hope I’m not the only one
Louder, I cannot hear you
How can things be better left unsaid
Call me, call me a dreamer
But it seems like dreams are all that we’ve got left
I hope we still have a heartbeat
I hope we don’t turn to snow
A night when you turn the lights off
I hope you don’t cry alone
I hope we stop taking for granted
All of the land and all of the sea
I’m taking a chance on loving
I hope that you take it with me

I just hope I’m not the only one
I just hope I’m not the only one
I just hope I’m not the only one

Father, give us faith

Thank you for the strength that comes from your love;
Help me, when I am at my weakest, to find my faith again.
