Peace – 2021/22

Our Word of the Week this week is

Peace

2nd Week of Advent

God gave himself to the world, not as a powerful king but as a tiny baby. He brought a message of peace and humility to a world that needed it more than ever. Think this week about the peace in our world. Does everybody live in the peaceful communities that we do? This week let’s try and remember that during Advent we are called to bring the peace of Christ to everyone we meet.

Choose someone in your form to lead your prayer this morning. They should read anything in bold, and everyone else should join in on the other parts.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

On Sunday we entered into the 2nd week of Advent. This week we light the second purple candle on the Advent wreath and reflect on the theme of Peace.

Let us bow our heads and pray together:

Heavenly Father,

We pray that we may recognise the importance of Peace this Advent and make time in our busy lives to be still with you.

Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

This week’s Gospel reflection is led by Mr Turton. Listen carefully particularly to the second half of the passage – what do you think it means by prepare the way for the Lord?

What preparations can we make in our hearts, homes, classrooms and wider school to prepare the way for the Lord?

God of mercy,
help us to listen to your voice,
a voice that speaks of peace to all people.

Let the sound resonate within us,
until a whisper becomes a shout
which cannot be ignored.

Move us with your love,
so that our actions echo your peace,
and we may bring tidings of comfort and joy
to those touched by conflict.

Fill us with your hope, O Lord, and
quiet the fear and hatred which divides us,
as we seek to build a future together,
of true and lasting peace.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Prince of Peace,

Amen.

Today we are going to pray in the form of a meditation. To help prepare you for this type of prayer, clear any work or distractions around you. Maybe you could dim the lights or light a candle if you have one nearby.

Now sit up straight, get comfortable in your seats and click on the link below and then press on the play button in the bottom left corner which will lead you through this meditation.

Dear Lord,

We pray that we may find peace in our lives. May we have the strength to take a step back from the business of life and be in the quiet with you. We ask the Holy Spirit to come down on us and fill our classrooms with the gift of peace this Advent.

Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
