Mental Health Awareness Week – 2022/23

Mental Health Awareness Week 2023

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week 2023. Our form time focus will be around Mental Health and how our faith can support us in looking after our mental health.

Choose someone in your form to lead your prayer this morning. They should read anything in bold, and everyone else should join in on the other parts.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

The focus for Mental Health Week this year is anxiety. There are multiple references to being anxious in the Bible, and the one below comes from the book of Psalms.

I said, “I am falling”;
but your constant love, O Lord, held me up.
Whenever I am anxious and worried,
you comfort me and make me glad.

When we are anxious we can feel like things are spiraling and can become overwhelming. Being able to take a quiet moment with the Lord and offer all these worries and anxieties to him can be helpful. Take a moment to watch the video below and learn a bit more about anxiety compared to being anxious.

Have you ever felt anxious? Try and have an honest conversation in your forms, if you can, about times when people have felt anxious. Often, knowing that others are experiencing similar feelings and emotions, can help make us feel less alone.

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, in our moments of anxiety help us to place our trust in you. Remind us that we are not alone and that you will always be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Today is the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, and so we are going to celebrate a liturgical prayer together. When you are ready play the video below for the liturgy.

There are lots of techniques that people use to combat their anxiety. Below are some links to some anxiety techniques that might be useful to have a look at if you are ever struggling.

One of the things that people sometimes find helpful is taking some time out to listen to music. The song we are going to listen to today talks about placing our trust in God. Whilst you listen to the song, take a moment to think about anything that you are worried or anxious about. Offer these things to God, asking Him for his support and guidance today.

Let us pray:

Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit. We ask you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives. Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
