Frances (Catherine McAuley Hub)

Hey, my name is Frances and I am one of the Lay Chaplains for the Catherine McAuley Hub. This includes The Trinity School (Aspley), St Teresa’s primary (Aspley), St Mary’s primary (Hyson Green), St Augustine’s (Mapperly) and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (Bulwell).

I absolutely love being a Lay Chaplain and getting to know all the children and young people across our Trust and helping them explore their faith.

I love eating sweets and pizza, both of which I can’t eat right now as I have just had new braces fitted! So instead I am keeping distracted by running and listening to lots of music and Podcasts – my favourite one at the moment is Happy Place podcast.

My favourite Saints are Saints Felicity and Perpetua  who were martyred for their faith in Africa. Their faith was so strong that when her father asked why they wanted to become a Christian they said; Pointing to a water jug, she asked her father, “See that pot lying there? Can you call it by any other name than what it is?” Her father answered, “Of course not.” Perpetua responded, “Neither can I call myself by any other name than what I am — a Christian.”

Joe (St Francis of Assisi Hub)

Hey, my name is Joe and I am a Lay Chaplain in the St Francis of Assisi Hub which includes The Becket School (Wilford), Blessed Robert Widmerpool primary (Clifton), English Martyrs primary (Long Eaton), St Edmund Campion Primary (West Bridgford), Our Lady and St Edwards primary (St Annes) and St Patrick’s primary (Wilford).

Issie (Catherine McAuley Hub)

Hi, my name is Issie and I’m one of the Lay Chaplains for the Catherine McAuley Hub. This includes The Trinity School (Aspley), St Teresa’s primary (Aspley), St Mary’s primary (Hyson Green), St Augustine’s (Mapperly) and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (Bulwell).

If I could travel back in time I would absolutely love to go back to Ancient Greece! I find Greek mythology so interesting, and love learning about their stories and life in Ancient Greece.

My favourite thing about working as a Chaplain is probably the trips to The Briars and our retreat days, both of these allow our students to experience faith in different ways and to understand just how powerful a thing it can be. I just love the way that they broaden people’s minds and help us to realise just how interactive our faith really is!

Ruth (St Francis of Assisi Hub)

Hi, my name is Ruth and I am a Lay Chaplain in the St Francis of Assisi Hub which includes The Becket School (Wilford), Blessed Robert Widmerpool primary (Clifton), English Martyrs primary (Long Eaton), St Edmund Campion Primary (West Bridgford), Our Lady and St Edwards primary (St Annes) and St Patrick’s primary (Wilford).

My favourite saint is St Francis of Assisi (and not just because I work within the SFA hub!) Francis inspires me because he gave up a life of wealth to live a life of poverty, he is also known for his love of nature, animals and the environment which I am passionate about too! Francis is a great example of someone who followed Jesus’ example by looking after the most vulnerable in society.

Some of my favourite things to do include arts and crafts, watching films and eating sweets, spending time with family and babysitting my nephews, and I love going on walks and taking lots of photos!

Luke (Our Lady of Lourdes CMAT)

Hey guys my name is Luke and I am the apprentice lay chaplain in the Catherine McAuley Hub with Fran and Issie. After being on the Briars team, I wanted to go into chaplaincy and so I joined the chaplaincy apprenticeship which I’ll be doing for 2 years.

My absolute favourite film series is Harry Potter, I could watch it over and over and never get bored of it and my favourite music is anything by ‘Blossoms’.

I would probably choose St Maximilian Kolbe as my favourite saint as he was my house saint when I was at school and more recently, I chose him as my confirmation saint. He made one of the biggest sacrifices you could ever make for a complete stranger making him a perfect example for love.

My favourite praise and worship song is definitely ‘My Lighthouse’ by Rend Collective which is an absolute banger.
