It’s that time of year again and we are getting ready for Lenten Fundraising! Today promises to be a really exciting day, but we need to make sure we understand what it’s all about.
Everything we raise today will go to CAFOD Faith in Families and Emmanuel House and by understanding what they do, hopefully we can think about why we’re doing what we’re doing this afternoon and how important our money is to people across the world.
Emmanuel house was founded by and ex-Becket headmaster and continues to help those in need in Nottingham. It takes in people who are vulnerable and in need or those who are living without a home. It’s a safe house and a place for advice and fellowship. We must also remember that those even further away are still our neighbours. Jesus tells us that when someone is in need then we need to help them whoever and wherever they are. CAFOD does this all across the world by working with people to create paths out of poverty:
Faith in Families works right here in school as well as across the East Midlands helping young people with everything from mental health to adoption. They do amazing work with those who need it the most and now it’s up to us to help them help others.
Remember that what you do today will actually save lives and keep people off the streets!
Your job, before you leave for your activities is to take a piece of paper and write on it who you’re fundraising for today. You might write simply “the homeless” or “children in poverty” or you might want to think in a bit more detail about the kinds of people these charities help. Talk and share your ideas.
When you’ve done that put that piece of paper in your planner or your pocket or somewhere you will find again when you get home. When you find that piece of paper don’t forget what you’re doing today and the difference it will make.
