Each of us has a mission from God and we must find a way to complete this mission.

We start with our Music Resource where we have lots of small missions to complete to try to be like Jesus.

In our Picture Resource we will think about the mission of love that Jesus commanded us to carry out and think about how we respond to that command.

Our Action will help us to think about our qualities and strengths that help us to do what Jesus has asked of us and we will celebrate these things in an awards ceremony!

Our Video Resource gets us thinking about the mission that each of us has been called by God to complete and how we can change the world through our mission.

Finally, we remember the mission that the disciples, and each one of us, was given by Jesus: that we should make disciples of all peoples.

Think carefully about how you respond to your great mission and whether you choose to accept it…

The best way to live out our mission is by trying to do what Jesus would do.

Your Mission

Each of the Missions below are things that Jesus might have done to share the love of God.

Press play on the “Mission Music” and try to complete the task as many times as possible before the music finishes.

When the music ends see who has done the task the most times!

Mission 1

As a sign of peace shake hands with the people in your Class and say “peace be with you”

Mission 2

To show love to the people in your school tidy as many things in your classroom as you can

Mission 3

To make others feel good about themselves tell people in your Class what you think is great about them. Use positive words!
For those times when it is not easy to show love and to do the right thing please help us Jesus to be patient and to stay determined to do the right thing.

Amen.

What does this picture show?

Which command given to us by Jesus is shown in this picture?

What should the man in the picture do to follow the mission given to us by Jesus?

When Jesus was asked which is the greatest commandment of all He replied:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22: 37-40

In these words Jesus made our mission very clear: we must act with great love.

Think about how you can show love to others.

When you have a choice of whether to show love, what will you do?

If you were the person in the picture how would you act?

Help us Jesus to complete your great mission by showing love to our neighbour.

Help us to show love and respect to ourselves and to others.

Amen.

As we think about the mission that Jesus has given us to show love to others we should celebrate the times that we have done this.

Think about the things that are special about you as an individual which mean that you are the right person for your mission in life.

Look around the room at the people in your Class and think about what they are great at and have achieved.

Are they a great friend?

Do they have a smile that cheers everyone up?

Are they great at spellings or times tables?

To celebrate the people around us and the fantastic achievements that we have all made we are going to hold an awards ceremony.

Think of some awards that you could have in your Class for example, Girl/ Boy who’s always smiling, Friendship awards, Spellings King/ Queen.

Send each group in your Class out one at a time and vote for who will receive each award in your Class.

You can all help to make the certificates or you could make a special flower or medal to give each person as they get their award.

Here are some of the things you might need for your awards ceremony:

Scripture which celebrates all of our great achievements:

We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body. So we are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us. If our gift is to speak God’s message, we should do it according to the faith that we have; if it is to serve, we should serve; if it is to teach, we should teach; if it is to encourage others, we should do so. Whoever shares with others should do it generously; whoever has authority should work hard; whoever shows kindness to others should do it cheerfully.

Love must be completely sincere.

(Romans 12: 4-9)

Music for your awards ceremony:

You could play this music at the start or as the people who are receiving awards collect them.

Think about how you could decorate the room for your awards ceremony.

Will you have a red carpet?

Will you have decorations?

Will you have a poster about your awards ceremony and invite other classes to see the awards being given?

Think carefully about who will give out the awards. Will it be children from your Class? Year 6s? Your teacher? Your headteacher?

Make your awards ceremony a celebration of all of your achievements and take this opportunity to thank God for the help, love and support that has been shared with you.

Use your achievements to encourage you in your mission in life and to help you do what God has called you to do.

Although we all have the same mission to love others there may be different ways that we live out this mission.

God calls each of us for our own special role.

Have you heard God’s call?

Will you answer God’s call when you hear it?

What change would you like to see in the world?

What could you do to change the world?

Realising we have an important mission and a calling from God can be a scary thought because it is a big responsibility but God has given each of us a very special job to do and God knows that we are the right person for that mission.

As Saint Paul explained to the Corinthians, God will not give us a task that is too big for us and if we feel that we cannot do it then God will be there for us.

Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

(1 Corinthians 10:13)

To ask God for strength and the courage to do what He has asked of us join together and pray the Our Father.

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Our Mission is the same as the one that Jesus gave to His disciples before he ascended into heaven.

Read this scripture below to find out what this mission is.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.

(Glory to you O Lord.)

The eleven disciples went to the hill in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.When they saw him, they worshipped him, even though some of them doubted. Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

(Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.)

Matthew 28: 17-20

What did Jesus tell his disciples to do?

What important commands were the disciples told to tell to all peoples?

How could you carry out this mission?

A great way to teach others is by showing them your good example.

If we love one another we are we are loving God so this is how we should show others what Jesus taught us.

Help us Jesus to complete the mission that you gave to your disciples and to each one of us.

Help us to remember that you are always with us to help us and to guide us.

Amen.
