After a break from school we are now back, ready to continue our school journey. We will be thinking about different types of journeys this week, how we can prepare for them and how God will help us on our way.
Our Music Resource will get us thinking about the advice that God has given us for the journeys that we take.
This week’s Picture should still be in our minds from the celebrations over the weekend and we will think about the gifts that we bring forth to Jesus.
There is a test of our memory in our Action this week as we think abut what we would need to take with us on a journey.
As it is the start of a New Year the Video Resource is helping us to think about the promises we will make and the goals we want to achieve as we journey throughout 2018. Will you be able to show love to others as Jesus has asked us to?
Finally, we will take some time away from all of our busy journeys to stop and think about the wonderful world that God has created for us. We will focus on the sky and the amazing things that it holds before completing some activities that help us to celebrate that.
All year we will be on our journey throughout life so take some time this week to think carefully about what you want your journey to be like and what sort of person you want to be on that journey.

When we are going on a journey people often give us advice to help us along the way.
What advice have you been given before you go on a journey?
Did someone tell you the way to go?
Did someone tell you what to take on your journey?
Did someone tell you what to expect when you got there?
Did you try to be like Jesus on your journey?
Did you see Jesus in others as you met people along your journey?
God is always there with us whatever journey we take, big or small.
In the book of Isaiah where it explains how God will bless His people it says:
If you wander off the road to the right or the left, you will hear his voice behind you saying, “Here is the road. Follow it.”
This is the advice that God gives us and that we can follow. God will always be with us and even if we go the wrong way God will welcome us back to Him.
Please help us when we do not know the right way to go.

Who is riding on them?
How do they know which way to go?
Do you think they have any gifts with them?
Who are they going to see and give gifts to?
Read this scripture from Matthew’s Gospel to see if you are right:
And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshipped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to him.
Then they returned to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.
(Matthew 2: 9-12)
Think about what gifts you could give to Jesus. Not just precious things such as gold but gifts of love, your talents and your hard work.
Share you ideas with others so you can start to give your gifts to Jesus today.

Think about the things that you would want to take on a journey with you.
It could be a faith journey, an outdoor journey or even a journey to a friend’s house.
Going around the group everyone needs to start by saying:
“I went on a journey and I took with me…”
Then each person must come up with something that they need to bring on the journey.
Try to keep the items in alphabetical order for example:
“I went on a journey and I took with me…an apple (as a snack), a bike (to ride on), a camera (to take pictures)…”
See how long you can make the list and see how good you are at remembering what you need for your journey.

Which promise, or goal, did you think was the best from the video?
Have you made any promises that you are going to try to keep this year?
This scripture from John’s Gospel reminds us of the promise that Jesus makes with us, that He would send the Holy Spirit to help us in everything that we do.:
“If you love me, you will obey my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you.
(John 14: 15-17)
Jesus promises to give us help and all that we have to do in return is to keep Jesus’ commands.
Jesus told us to love our neighbour and if we can do that then we are keeping our promise with Jesus.
Help us to be good people in this new year and to love others.

Read this Psalm which describes God’s glory in creation.
How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory!
How plainly it shows what he has done!
Each day announces it to the following day;
each night repeats it to the next.
No speech or words are used,
no sound is heard;
yet their message goes out to all the world
and is heard to the ends of the earth.
God made a home in the sky for the sun;
it comes out in the morning like a happy bridegroom,
like an athlete eager to run a race.
It starts at one end of the sky
and goes across to the other.
Nothing can hide from its heat.
(Psalm 19: 1-6)
Whatever journeys we take the sky still holds all of these wonderful things and we don’t always take the time to look at it and to enjoy the beauty in it.
Think of a way that you can celebrate the wonderful sky and world that God has created for us to journey in.
You might like to create a beautiful sky for your classroom ceiling which shows some of the things that you discussed earlier.
You might like to go outside and watch the clouds go by and see what shapes you can spot.
You could draw a special picture of the night sky and see the shapes of the stars and the size of the moon.
Help us to appreciate everything that you have given us and to take care of it.
