A sense of belonging is really important wherever we go because we don’t want to feel like the odd one out.
This week there are lots of things to think about, to design and to make which will help us to think about belonging.
We will design a secret handshake and make a tag to remind us of the groups that we belong to. We will also investigate our school badges to see what signs and symbols exist that tell us more about the school community that we belong to.
There will be time to reflect on the sacrament of Baptism and to think about what that means to those who are baptised.
Finally, we will be sharing the great things that we know about Jesus so that others can feel part of the loving family of God and can feel that they belong too!
Think carefully this week about how you can make others feel like they belong so that they know the love of Jesus too.

This week we have a fun song from Toy Story 3 all about belonging together!
We all belong to the family of God and we belong together as friends of Jesus.
Often friends might have a special handshake for their friendship so they know that they belong.
Once you have all had chance to practice the moves play the song again and try to do your Class handshake with everyone in your Class before the song finishes!
Remember that belonging is about sharing in something with each other and whenever you see someone feeling sad and lonely share your handshake with them so that they remember that they belong to your Class where they are loved and cared for.

We are going to look at some of the badges which give us a sense of belonging to our schools. Look carefully at the different badges across our Trust.
Are the colours important on your badge?
Are there any important words or letters on your badge?
How do you feel when you wear your school badge?
By wearing a badge it shows that we are part of a group and that we belong.
All of our school badges include symbols that show the values and the important things to the communities that we are a part of.
If you would like to share your prayers out loud for your school and your community then take some time to do that now.

It is wonderful to belong to a group but sometimes we may not feel included or as if we belong.
We are always included in God’s eyes so to help us remember how special we are to God we are going to make tags that will remind us that we belong to God and to our Christian family.
I belong to God.
On the other side of your tag you could draw a picture of yourself with God or you could write a prayer to God. (You could use the prayer below.)
Put your tag somewhere safe to remind yourself that you always belong and that you are part of God’s family.
Help us to remember that we belong to you and that we are part of your family always.

Watch this video to find out about the sacrament of baptism.
What does baptism show?
Baptism is the way that we show that we belong to Jesus and that we have given our lives to Him.
This scripture from Matthew’s Gospel describes what happened at the baptism of Jesus:
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Then heaven was opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and lighting on him. Then a voice said from heaven, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased.”
(Matthew 3: 16-17)
God spoke and explained that Jesus was His Son who belonged to Him, and it is the same when we are baptised – we show that we belong to God.
Offer up a prayer for those that you know who have already been baptised. Help them remember that they are part of God’s loving family and that they have given their lives to God.

The scripture below is part of what Jesus explained to his disciples.
(Glory to you O Lord.)
I am the good shepherd. As the Father knows me and I know the Father, in the same way I know my sheep and they know me. And I am willing to die for them. There are other sheep which belong to me that are not in this sheep pen. I must bring them, too; they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
The Gospel of the Lord.
(Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.)
As we learnt last week, the sheep that Jesus is talking about are people!
There are people who don’t know about Jesus and don’t know the great things about Him. It is our job as disciples of Jesus to spread the message and to tell everyone just how wonderful He is.
Make a poster which tells everyone about that story and why you like it. You could draw a picture, write about the story or act the story out and take some photos to be a part of your poster – it’s up to you!
It is important to share the wonderful things that we know about Jesus so that more people can listen to the voice of Jesus and know about the love that Jesus shares with all of us.
