This week we are thinking about beginnings.
We will be thinking about how we feel about new beginnings – sometimes they make us excited and sometimes they make us feel a bit scared! We will be learning that even if things go wrong when we begin something new we should keep on trying and not give up.
In our Scripture resource we will remind ourselves of what we learnt last year about how the world began and our picture resource will remind us that God created us and that was our first beginning.
During this week think about how you feel about beginnings and try to remember that God is with us in everything that we do, even if it is something new for us. Share your thoughts in the comments box below so that we can support each other in our new beginnings this term.

In that clip we saw lots of new beginnings. Sometimes they went well and other times there were a few mistakes, just like when the chick tried to run and it fell over.
It is always good to try to have a good beginning but even if we make a mistake it doesn’t mean that we should give up. As the song says: “We can see good things getting better everyday”.
What did you do?
How could you have made it less tricky?
If we find that things go wrong we have to be determined and keep on trying to do the right thing.
Help us to remember to keep on trying and not to give up if we don’t have a good start.

What do you see?
What beginnings do you see in the picture?
In this photograph we can see a small baby who is about to begin its life.
We can also see a bigger person, maybe their Mummy or Daddy, their big brother or sister or an aunty or uncle who is about to begin learning how to take care of that baby.
God has made all of us so all of our lives begin with God.
Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him.
Because of his love God had already decided that through Jesus Christ he would make us his children—this was his pleasure and purpose.
(Ephesians 1: 4-5)
It is a great thing that we are all God’s children because it means that we begin our lives knowing that someone loves us and cares about us, no matter what we do.
Try to remember that God is the beginning of everything and thank God for the lives that we have.
Help us to remember that we are loved and that we should show that same love to everyone.

Each morning we begin a new day.
David wrote a psalm about what we can see of God’s wonderful creation at the beginning of the day.
How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory!
How plainly it shows what he has done!
Each day announces it to the following day;
each night repeats it to the next.
No speech or words are used,
no sound is heard;
yet their message goes out to all the world
and is heard to the ends of the earth.
God made a home in the sky for the sun;
it comes out in the morning like a happy bridegroom,
like an athlete eager to run a race.
David has written this psalm because he can see the wonderful things that God has created and is excited to start a new day with God watching over him.
As members of God’s family it is important to start the day by speaking to God and asking for help to make the right choices during the day.
You could write a prayer together as a Class, in small groups or even on your own.
Think about whether you would use this prayer at home or at school.
Think about what you need to talk to God about before you start your day.
Do you need to ask for help with anything?
Do you need to say thank you for anything?
If we start our day by talking to God it helps us to remember that we should show love to one another.
Try to use your prayer as you begin your day.

This video is a clip from the film Finding Nemo which shows Nemo going for his first day of school. Watch carefully to see how Nemo and his Dad feel about a new beginning.
How did Nemo’s Dad feel about starting school?
How did you feel about beginning a new year at school?
Beginnings can make us feel different things. Sometimes we feel excited, other times we feel nervous.
It is important to remember that no matter how we feel about new starts God will be with us in everything we do.
The prophet Joshua was worried about the job that God had given him but God said to Joshua:
Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.”
We all get worried sometimes but when we do we should trust God that He will be watching over us and taking care of us.
Help us to remember that you are always with us wherever we go.

Listen to this psalm and all of the wonderful things that God created.
When I look at the sky, which you have made,
at the moon and the stars, which you set in their places—
what are human beings, that you think of them;
mere mortals, that you care for them?
Yet you made them inferior only to yourself;
you crowned them with glory and honor.
You appointed them rulers over everything you made;
you placed them over all creation:
sheep and cattle, and the wild animals too;
the birds and the fish
and the creatures in the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
your greatness is seen in all the world!
In the beginning, the world was created by God. He made the sea and the land, the day and the night, He made all of the plants and creatures and humans that are on the Earth.
God gave the humans that He created a job to look after the Earth and all of its plants and creatures. We still have that same job today.
There are lots of ways that the world around us is being spoilt so we must make a fresh start and promise to take care of the world that we live in again.
Are there things that you could stop doing that will make the world a better place?
Are there things that you could start doing that will make the world a better place?
Help us to do the right thing to look after everything that you made.
