Hope – The Becket (29th-3rd Dec)

———————————————————————————————————

Our Word of the Week this week is

Hope

1st Week of Advent

The first week of Advent is themed around Hope. It’s a chance to remember the hope of God’s people as they waited for a messiah and an opportunity to reflect on our hope that one day Jesus will come again. What are you hopeful for in our world? If you could have just one hope for the future what would it be? God gives hope to everyone and as we enter the season of Advent we should remember that whenever things are difficult we can always hope in God.

Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.”

Leader: On Sunday we began the season of Advent. The theme of the first week of Advent is Hope, it is a season of preparation and anticipation for the birth of Jesus, as well as hoping for the second coming of Christ.  Advent is also the start of the liturgical year in the Roman Catholic Church. The liturgical colour for Advent is purple – a colour of both penance and of royalty. Let’s find out some more about our first week in Advent…

WORD OF THE WEEK VIDEO

Leader/Young person – “Let us bow our heads and pray together…”

Dear Jesus, in Advent we remember the importance of hope. Help us to always have hope in you and to share this hope with others through our kindness and
our joy.

Lord hear us…

Lord graciously hear us

Leader/Young person: “We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.”

Today we are going to listen to an Advent song by Matt Maher called Hope for everyone. Spend this time quietly reflecting on the lyrics and/or join in with the chorus if you pick it up!

Living involves hoping. We need hope to survive. Hope acknowledges that there is a future awaiting us that is much, much better than the present. The virtue of hope, enables us to handle the present distresses and struggles we have in our lives, in a positive way.

There are many things that people need hope for- hope for peace, hope for equality, hope to overcome, hope for courage, hope for friendship, hope for a new start.

Jesus brought hope to the hopeless by showing them love and compassion.

Let us know in the comments below how you are going to share hope this Advent?

People of hope prayer

In this season of Advent, inspire us to be people of hope.

Encourage us not to be greedy for material possessions, but for justice and truth.

Enflame us with a love for others, which crosses boundaries of race, religion and nationality.

Stir within us a desire to fight  for the integrity of creation and appreciate the immense beauty of the earth.

Be with us, Lord, at this time, that we may be a people of hope.

Amen.

Leader/Young person: “We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

If you haven’t seen this week’s house AOW please make sure you view it, links are in the notices or would have been received by email.

If you would like to sign up for a Mass pass please come down to the chapel at break or lunch to sign up for FRiday lunchtime Mass!

Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.”

In your house AOWs this week you were asked….

THINK: What are you hopeful for this Advent?

Each form will have received a piece of paper with the image on the right (on your prayer boards)

At the end of the Act of Worship or in tomorrow’s form time prayer you are going to write up and decorate your prayer intention for Advent.

Then, stick your form’s prayer intention on your form prayer board so that all the different classes will join in praying with you when they see your prayer board.

For example, you might be hopeful for the countries who are suffering from war and conflict or the people who cannot spend Christmas with their loved ones or pray for the people who are suffering from depression.

You hopefully have received your candles from your form tutor or progress leaders to complete in your form groups this week. Please let us know if you do not have your sheet.

Your mission this week:

This week we have a mission for everyone to complete throughout the week to help bring us together in prayer and spread hope.

Your hopeful prayer intentions will create a little hope around the school in every form room.

Make sure you decorate and stick your Hope prayer intention up in your form room- we can’t wait to see them and the Chaplaincy team will come round to take photos of them.

Whatever you choose to be hopeful for will be your form prayer intention and we encourage you to pray for that thing at least once every week to spread hope this Advent!

A brief summary or fundamental lessons of the Bible

Leader/Young person – “Let us bow our heads and pray together…”

Christ, come into our world of darkness
Light up our lives with your coming.
Fulfil all our longings with the joy of your birth
Strengthen our resolve to work for change in our world
And to share the hope of your birth that each Advent brings.
Amen.

Leader/Young person: “We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

All:  In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Friday lunchtime Mass is today! Make sure you come down to the chapel at break to sign up for a Mass pass and reserve a lunch if you need one reserving. We will be joined by class 2 from St Patrick’s school.

Synod 2021/2023 #listeningchurch

During today’s form time we are going to be answering some of the questions posed to our schools for the synod. The synod is a journey the Church is embarking on, a opportunity to ask questions, answer questions and listen to one another. Pope Francis and Bishop Patrick are very passionate about hearing what our young people in our schools have to say. We want to know what you dream the future of the church to look like.

Each tutor should have received a stapled pack of coloured questions to answer – if you haven’t received yours yet please type up your form’s response and send it to Ruth.

There are 6 questions we will be answering over the next couple of weeks. The first two questions are:

  1. Who are the people who feel left out and excluded in the Church?
  2. How can we reach out, listen to and love them? Think of two ideas, one for now and one for the future, to help include these people in the Church.

Discuss the questions in your form groups and write up your answers. Once you have filled the green pages, keep your questions somewhere safe (pin them onto your prayerboard?) so that they are ready to use next week when we answer our second set of questions.

Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.”

Have a great Friday everyone!
