  • Tuesday 15th December, after school (evening, time TBC)– The Our Lady of Lourdes after school Advent Liturgy that can be celebrated in your homes with your families, there will be music, scripture, drama, reflection and lots more created and presented by each of the schools in our trust.

The word of the week is HOPE!

The first week of Advent is themed around Hope. It’s a chance to remember the hope of God’s people as they waited for a Messiah and an opportunity to reflect on our hope that one day Jesus will come again. What are you hopeful for in our world? If you could have just one hope for the future what would it be?

God gives hope to everyone and as we enter the season of Advent we should remember that whenever things are difficult we can always hope in God.

Introduction to the Season of Advent

You may have seen this video before, however whether you are an expert in Advent or could do with a little reminder, this is a great video resource to watch as we start our journey through Advent. It reminds us why we do what we do during this Liturgical season and gives us lots to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Leader/Student: Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Leader/Student- Let us Pray:

May this season of Advent bring us closer to Christ who is always with us and remind us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.

We wait with joy for the Lord, the hope of the world.

May we reach out with love to our sisters and brothers in need, sharing our hope for a world transformed.

Amen

Leader/Student: We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

This week we have a mission for everyone to complete throughout the week to help bring us together in prayer and spread hope.

As this week is all about HOPE we want to create a little hope around the school in every form room or possibly the communal spaces in your bubble!

  • As a form goup can you come up with an acrostic poem for  H, O, P, E.  For example:

H could be; ‘Happiness for everyone’ or ‘homes for the homeless’.

O could be; ‘Opening the door to family’ or ‘Offering a smile’

P could be; ‘Parties with friends’ or ‘Peace in our world’

E could be; ‘Everyone is safe’ or ‘Equality for all’

Whatever it is that we hope for, it is a simple and beautiful prayer to God.

Don’t forget to put your acrostic poems in the comments box below 🙂

This way everyone can collectively pray for what we are hoping for the season of Advent.

A Prayer For Hope

Lord, when I stand at the beginning or the end of a day, bless me with vision to see the best of things to come and things that have gone.

Bless me with wisdom to make good decisions and most of all faith, that you are walking with me every step of the way.

Amen

Leader/Student: We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

All: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

As we begin the new school day or come to the end of another school day, we invite you to take a moment to stop. Take this opportunity to set aside the busy-ness of school life and pause, just for a moment.

We invite you take part in a form of meditation. Throughout this meditation we invite you to be silent, close your eyes or focus on the images on the video.

Make sure you are not distracting or touching anyone or anything, but instead focus on yourself and God.

Sit comfortably. Rest your neck, shoulders and arms and become aware of your breathing.

All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Leader/student: Today we invite you listen to the lyrics of a beautiful song called ‘Light of the World’ by Lauren Daigle. Lauren Daigle is an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter, and she was also on American Idol!

Accompanying the song, is a contemporary dance by Midland University Dance. You may notice that throughout the dance there is always someone holding the lamp and lighting the way for the others. Think about how you can bring light to those in darkness this Advent. Let the rest of the community know in the comments below?

(stop video at 2 mins 30)

Jesus spoke to them saying “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

We pray for those who are living in darkness, the shadow of war, loneliness or conflict.

Heavenly Father, be close to those who are suffering. May they be blessed with the light and joy of Christ and may we help share that light with others.

      Amen

As always, we take time to listen to and reflect on Sunday’s Gospel, the first Sunday of Advent…

        God of light, shine forth,
show us how to bring hope to others.
God of mercy, help us to comfort your people and
        share in their joy.
God of hope, make us Advent people,
        preparing the way for life
        in all its fullness.

        Amen
