The word of the week is HOPE!

The first week of Advent is themed around Hope. It’s a chance to remember the hope of God’s people as they waited for a Messiah and an opportunity to reflect on our hope that one day Jesus will come again. What are you hopeful for in our world? If you could have just one hope for the future what would it be?

God gives hope to everyone and as we enter the season of Advent we should remember that whenever things are difficult we can always hope in God.

Today our Word of the Week video comes from The Becket School. Once you’ve watched the video, say the prayer below together to start us off this week.

May this season of Advent bring us closer to Christ who is always with us and remind us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love. We wait with joy for the Lord, the hope of the world. May we reach out with love to our sisters and brothers in need, sharing our hope for a world transformed.

Amen

Today we invite you listen to the lyrics of a beautiful song called ‘Light of the World’ by Lauren Daigle. Lauren Daigle is an American contemporary Christian music singer and songwriter, and she was also on American Idol!

Accompanying the song, is a contemporary dance by Midland University Dance. You may notice that throughout the dance there is always someone holding the lamp and lighting the way for the others. Think about how you can bring light to those in darkness this Advent. Let the rest of the community know in the comments below.

(Stop the video at 2:30)

Jesus spoke to them saying “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

We pray for those who are living in darkness, the shadow of war, loneliness or conflict.

Heavenly Father, be close to those who are suffering. May they be blessed with the light and joy of Christ and may we help share that light with others.

Amen

As always, we take time to listen to and reflect on Sunday’s Gospel, the first Sunday of Advent. This week it is brought to us by The Becket again.

God of light, shine forth,
show us how to bring hope to others.
God of mercy, help us to comfort your people and
share in their joy.
God of hope, make us Advent people,
preparing the way for life
in all its fullness.

Amen
