Our Word of the Week this week is
Healing
It is now the 5th week of Ordinary Time
This week we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the patron saint of our family of schools. When Our Lady appeared to St Bernadette, she called people to her to bathe in the water, to repent and find healing. Today millions of people visit Lourdes looking for the same peace and healing in their lives. There have been many miraculous healings in Lourdes over the years and we too can look for healing in our lives through faith. That healing is not always physical, sometimes it can be mental or emotional too and as we celebrate this beautiful feast let us think about the things that we need healing and how we can bring healing to others.

Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.” All: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” This week’s word of the week video has been created by Trinity School! Some of the Year 10 students who went to The Briars a couple of weeks ago are going to talk to us about the theme of healing and read some of the scriptures that show us Jesus’ healing powers. In your form groups look through the slideshow of pictures below – for each picture ask the questions “what is the picture showing and why does this link to the theme of healing in our faith?” Discuss and comment below: Can you think of anymore signs, symbols or images that remind you of the theme of healing? Leader/Young person – “Let us bow our heads and pray together…” Heavenly Father, You heal our hearts and minds when we are feeling weak, lost or sad. We pray that we may open our hearts to your healing and share your kind and healing ways with others so that they may get to know you too. Amen. Leader/Young person: “We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.” All: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” Wednesday and Thursday form time prayer – write healing prayers to help us prepare for the Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day, decorate and cut out paper hands for form prayer board. If you finish your healing prayers early, you will find this week’s Gospel reflection video at the bottom of the page, led by James, a member of the Briars team. Leader/Young person: “Good morning, let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.” All: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” Healing Prayers Hopefully you all know that we belong to the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust, a family of 21 other schools – 4 secondary schools and 17 primary schools! On Thursday we will celebrate the Our Lady of Lourdes Mass virtually during period 2 with Bishop Patrick and the other 20 schools in our trust because on Friday we celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes! When Our Lady appeared to a young girl called Bernadette in Lourdes (one of our house saints), she called people to her, to bathe in the holy water, to repent and find healing. Today millions of people visit Lourdes looking for the same peace and healing in their lives. There have been many miraculous healings in Lourdes over the years and we too can look for healing in our lives through Mary’s example of love and faith. Healing is not always physical, sometimes it can be mental or emotional too and as we celebrate this beautiful feast let us think about the things that we need healing and how we can bring healing to others. As we prepare for the Our Lady of Lourdes CMAT Mass, we are going to spend some time thinking about the prayers we might like to offer up to God during our Mass. In your classrooms, spend a moment thinking about, and discussing, the people who might need healing in their lives during this time e.g. the homeless, people who are grieving, those who are suffering from illness, the lonely, the isolated. Using the hand templates you have received, spend some time writing a prayer of healing for the people you have reflected on in your classroom discussions. After you have written the prayers, perhaps you could get out some colours and decorate your prayers with images or patterns linked to the theme of Our Lady of Lourdes and Healing e.g. rosary beads, roses, water, the grotto, Our Lady. These prayer hands can then be cut out and used to decorate your form prayer boards and we will also select a few healing hands to help us create our new Our Lady of Lourdes display board. Here is some music you can play whilst writing your healing prayers and decorating the hands: Gospel Reflection This week’s Gospel reflection is led by James from the Briars! Leader/Young person – “Let us bow our heads and pray together…” Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to you. Allow Your healing Hand to heal us of our worries and illness. Touch my soul with Your compassion for others; touch my heart with Your courage and infinite Love for all; touch my mind with Your Wisdom, and may my mouth always proclaim Your praise. Teach me to reach out to You in all my needs, and help me to lead others to You by my example. Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all my strength. Amen.
