Diversity – All Saints’

DIVERSITY

Diversity inspires us to celebrate our differences and to respect the dignity and value of everyone. We are all made in the image of likeness of God and we can recognise God in all people, however different they may seem. Diversity reminds us that we are all called to love one another and to create a world where everyone feels loved, accepted and included.

Choose someone in your form to lead your prayer this morning. They should read anything in bold, and everyone else should join in on the other parts.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Today we are going to think about diversity in a bit more detail. How often do we sit and make snap judgements or assumptions about people? In a diverse community there are always going to be so many different types of people, but we should never judge them. Watch the video below to think about this more:

Talk about the following questions on diversity in your forms:

When is a time that you have judged someone before knowing them?

How does having different cultures in one community make that community better?

Let us pray…

O God, who created everyone in your image, we thank you for the wonderful diversity of races and cultures in this world. Enrich our lives by ever-widening circles of friendship and show us your presence in those who differ from us, until our knowledge of your love is made perfect in our love for all your children. Amen.

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

This week we think about the abuse people receive from discrimination against protected characteristics. We think and pray especially for Brianna Ghey who was killed in an anti-transgender hate crime. Look at the Protected Characteristics below.  We all have more than one of them. Take time to think about the different types of discrimination and who might be affected by this.

Think: How can I/we enact change and stand up for what is right, to fight against any type of discrimination?

Let us pray…

We pray for the soul of Brianna Ghey and pray for protection over her family and friends at this difficult time. We ask for the courage to love one another and pray for those who continue to be persecuted.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Amen
