Act of Worship – Community – Mr Greig

The word of the week is community!

This week we think about the different people we have in our lives and the different communities we belong to. Our community changes and grows all the time and every person who comes into our community brings something special and unique. We’ve not seen those in our communities for so long and being back together helps us to be grateful for those around us.

How can you look out for those in our community who we sometimes overlook – how can we show them they important and valued?

Click on the different tabs below to explore this week’s prayer resources. We hope you have a great week!

Remember to comment in the comments box below and let us know how you get on in your form groups 🙂

Well done 7P for being the first form to comment last week- you have earned Patrick House some points!

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

A community can come in all shapes and sizes, a faith community, school community, family, sports club, friendship circle.

Talk to the person next to you or discuss as a form group:

  • What communities do you belong to?
  • What is your favourite thing about The Becket community?
  • What have you missed about your communities over the last few months?
  • What did you do during lock down to continue to feel a part of your communities?

Let us know in the comments box below some of your form’s answers!

Remember comments = house points 🙂

We all belong to the our Lady of Lourdes Multi-Academy Trust community.

Let us join in saying our Trust Prayer together…

God Our Father,

Give us strength so that, guided by Our Lady’s example,

we can have the courage to say yes to you.

Help us to love like she loved, have faith like she had

and follow Jesus’ example in all that we do.

Inspire in all of us a sense of togetherness, so that we can use

the gifts you have given us for the good of all in our community

and bring support and healing to those less fortunate than ourselves.

We ask Our Lady to guide us, just as she guided St Bernadette,

as we seek to bring Jesus’ message of love

and forgiveness to others.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, Our Lord.

Amen

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

We hope you have a great Monday!

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Romans 12: 4-5

A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans,

We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions. In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body.

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

It’s that time of year again…we are filming the school music video! A great way to celebrate our community, everything it stands for and all the different parts that make up our one body in union with Christ.

Today we invite you to watch last years music video to remind yourself how wonderful and talented our community is.

Have a think about the ways in which we can celebrate our community in this years music video and how you can get involved…

Let Joe and/or Ruth know if you’d like to be involved in the school music video, this may be by celebrating a talent you have (dance, sport, reading, being musical etc.) or simply smiling and waving to the camera.

Remember: to be in the music video you must have handed back your photo/video consent forms. You must be wearing the correct school uniform and you must be practicing the Becket Way: working hard, being kind and doing the right thing.

They look forward to seeing you at break, lunch and form time!

Dear Lord,

We ask you to give us the courage to use our talents to help our community to flourish.

We ask for your unconditional love so we may share joy and kindness to everyone we meet.

And we ask for your understanding so we may help the vulnerable in our community.

Amen

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

The Season of Creation runs from 1 September (World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) to 4 October (the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) each year.

This season is dedicated to prayer and action for the protection of creation.

This is a great time to give thanks to God for everything He has created, say sorry for the damage that we have caused the earth and commit ourselves to take action to protect the earth our common home.

As The Becket School aspires to become a livesimply community, think about what our community can do more to live:

    • simply

    • in solidarity with people in poverty

    • sustainably with creation.

Let us know in the comments how we can do this together!

    Prayer for our World

Creator God, who made our beautiful world,

    appointed us as its guardians

and gifted us with everything we need,

    forgive us for the times we cause it harm;

for the times our way of life affects our neighbours.

    Inspire us to care for the environment;

    to help rebuild lives and communities;

to share in the griefs and anxieties,

joys and hopes of all your people,

so that all your creation may flourish.

    Amen.

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

As always, we take time to listen to Sunday’s Gospel which is being read to us by Vicki, Lay Chaplain at All Saints in Mansfield.

Which prayer is speaking to you today?

      Dear Lord,

Give me to have the courage to ask for forgiveness for the things I have done wrong.

      Amen

      Dear Lord,

Give me the strength to forgive someone who has caused me hurt.

      Amen
