Challenge

God gives us many challenges throughout our lives and throughout our faith journeys as well. This week focus on how we use the inner strength that God has given us so we are able to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. What challenges do we face and who can we turn to for help?

Choose someone in your form to lead your prayer this morning. They should read anything in bold, and everyone else should join in on the other parts.

We begin our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Today we are going to watch our word of the week video and this week it is CHALLENGE created by NDCYS.

Let us pray…

Lord, I know in this life there will be times of suffering and hardship but help me take heart because I know you have overcome the world. Give me the courage to face the challenges that come. Help me to persevere and not give up. Give me the strength to face these storms.

Amen

We end our prayer with the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Our faith challenges are often some of the hardest challenges that we can face as people. You might hear some people describe their faith as a roller coaster with lots of ups and downs; people quite often go through points in their life where they lose track of their faith after going through a difficult challenge but slowly they start to regain their faith.

This video is a clip from the film ‘The dark Kight Rises’. In it, Bruce Wayne (Batman) faces the challenge of trying to climb out of the pit that he has been put in. Watch the clip below.

Bruce had tried to climb up 2 times before but had failed. It is on the third time, when he doesn’t use the rope and has blind faith that he succeeds. The hope that he will eventually succeed in the challenge is what keeps him from not giving up with the challenge he faces.

Through the challenges we face, we must keep that faith and hope in God that he will help us through that challenge and make us better people from going through that challenge. Answer the following questions with the person next to you…

What challenges have you faced?

How have you overcome them?

Who helped you over come them?

Perhaps as a form you could write down some of the challenges you have overcome and place them up in your form room to remind yourselves of all that you can achieve. You could write them on post-it notes and stick them around your door as an affirmation whenever you leave!

Let us pray…

Heavenly Father, I carry Your protecting presence with me wherever I am, no matter what challenge I have to meet. You are with me. Your presence is my help in every need, it is my wisdom, and my strength.

Amen
