The word of the week is Belonging!

This week we are going to focus on what it means to belong.

We sometimes forget that being connected to the Catholic Church means we’re part of something incredible. There are 2 billion people who call themselves Christian and 1.1 billion of them are Catholic.

It is important for us to know that whoever we are and wherever we are from, we all belong to something. We all belong to God and, therefore, receive His love, forgiveness and kindness.

Have a think this week about what communities you belong to. How does it make you feel to belong to something special and what effect does it have on your life?

Click on the different tabs below to explore this week’s prayer resources. We hope you have a great week!

Remember to comment in the comments box below and let us know how you get on in your form groups 🙂

Well done for all the comments so far, especially 7P who have won lots of house points by commenting every week!

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Today we’re going to watch this week’s episode of NDCYS ‘Extra-ordo-nary’ to find out what’s coming up in the week ahead…

This year’s school music video aired on Wednesday at the year 6 open evening. If you haven’t already had chance to see it you can view it below! As you watch the video, think about the amazing community we belong to. What makes us unique and what makes you proud to belong to Becket?

There were over 100 clips for the school music video so please don’t be down heartened if you weren’t able to feature in this one…there will be lots more videos throughout the year to get involved with!

As we celebrate belonging to The Becket School community let us join in saying our school prayer…

Dear Lord,

We pray that we work hard to succeed in all we do; through faith, work and actions.

May we follow the example of Saint Thomas Becket to deepen our faith, remembering that to work is to pray and that we should put our best effort into everything we do.

We ask that The Becket School continues to be a place where we respect one another and take responsibility for our actions.

Thank you for the opportunities You give us to grow as individuals each day in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Amen

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

We hope you have a great Monday!

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Tuesday is the feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels. Click on the video below for five things you need to know about the Archangels!

Dear Lord,

Thank you for guiding me and supporting me in everyday life.

Help me make others feel welcome and loved so that they know they belong to school and church community.

Amen

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

On Thursday it is the feast day of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, one of our house patron saints.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897) was from Liseux in France. She died at the age of 24 through illness, but never complained and showed great strength in her suffering. She is called a ‘Doctor of the Church’ for her writings and acts of kindness, which have touched millions of people.

Saint Thérèse is most known for her “Little Way.”  She spoke not of doing great things, but of small things with great love.  She saw herself as a child who lived in complete dependence on God.  Thérèse acknowledged her littleness and believed this showed more clearly God’s greatness.

She once said, “If all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would lose its springtime beauty.” Thérèse saw herself as a tiny flower in the garden of God and believed His power shone more clearly through her weakness.

Thérèse inspires us to do everything we can, however small, to help others and to be strong when times are tough.

    Your Mission:

Spend a moment thinking of someone who needs some kindness. This may be someone in your form group or year group, a member of staff, a family member or a person who lives on the other side of the world.

Think of an act of kindness that you can do for that person that will make a difference to their day, week or even year! Say a prayer for that person and make a promise to God that you will fufil that act of kindness.

    We all say:

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us.

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

Let us start our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

As always, we take time to listen to Sunday’s Gospel. This week our reflection is from Joe McCay, Chaplain at Christ the King School within Our Lady of Lourdes Trust.

Let our community know some of the ways in which we can put our faith into action- comment in the comments box below!

      God our Father,

We thank you for the gift of faith which allows us to know you, one God, three persons.

We thank you that because of that faith, the whole of our lives are directed to living for other people.

Through your son, Jesus Christ, you show us how to love.

Give us the strength we need to live lives of love and faith, so that the world might come to know your son more and more through our actions and words as we seek to live lives which help to build your kingdom here on earth.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Amen.

We end our prayer by making the Sign of the Cross.

We hope you have a great Friday and weekend ahead 🙂
